Every Child Matters Gathering

Every Child Matters — A Gathering of Remembrance, Learning & CommUnity

Join us on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM for a special Every Child Matters gathering at the Thorold Indigenous Unity Garden, located within Mel Swart Lake Gibson Conservation Park.

We will gather in remembrance, reflection, learning and CommUnity as we honour the children, Survivors, families and generations impacted by the Residential School system.

Throughout the day, the Unity Garden will become an interactive outdoor learning space, with family-friendly drop-in activities inspired by the teachings and meaning of Every Child Matters. Come for a short visit or stay with us for the afternoon. Create, listen, ask questions, share space and learn together.

At scheduled times throughout the gathering, Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, artists and community members will offer special interactive teachings, storytelling, workshops and cultural experiences that invite us to deepen our understanding of the truths of Residential Schools while also honouring the strength, resilience, culture and continuity of Indigenous Peoples.

There will be space for reflection.

Space for learning.

Space for children and families to create together.

And space for all of us to consider the responsibility we carry forward for the generations still to come.

Full schedule, special guests, workshops and drop-in activities will be announced soon.

Everyone is welcome. This is a family-friendly gathering, and all activities are free.

Indigenous artists, makers and vendors are also invited to be part of the day, with complimentary vendor spaces available. Please contact the Thorold Indigenous Unity Garden team meburnett16@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.
